Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Attack as Authorities Press On With Manhunt for Killer.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the recent tragic incident at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their assailant continued following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

She served as the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies online, stating: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her family and friends, especially her parents.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a search at a hotel about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our public”.

The shooter began shooting inside a classroom in the engineering facility on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official informed the media outlet.

Police that raided the inn recovered two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was taken into custody, according to reports.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one student was discharged from care, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, authorities stated on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Further Tributes

Tributes were paid to Cook at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the organization. “She was famed for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, companions, and peers and grieve for of his bright future.”

National Context

The fatal shooting at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about 7,300 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to records. The following Monday was the 349th day of the year.
