The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel without notifying every member regarding the update. Social Media Response Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category than originally posted due to the recalibration. The company said the revised method more closely matches similar services. The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, causing user dissatisfaction. Measurement Approach Changes Before the change, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10. The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10. With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18. Member Experiences A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling". "Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does. Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22. "If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said. Manual Updates Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products". "This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she said. Platform Context The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users. It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop. This isn't the first time that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
