Six Suspects Apprehended After €12M Armed Raid on Gold Processing Laboratory in France

A group of six individuals using military-grade weapons used explosive devices to break into a precious metals processing plant located in the city of Lyon, causing light wounds to five staff members during what is being called the latest high-profile daytime heist to affect France.

The audacious robbery occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, with law enforcement authorities swiftly apprehending the individuals believed responsible and securing the stolen items valued at approximately 12 million euros (£10.5M), officials reported.

Five staff members of the precious metals facility sustained minor injuries due to the explosion, and three individuals were taken to a medical facility for evaluation, officials confirmed. Twenty-eight workers were at the location when the robbers attacked.

The individuals, believed to be experienced criminals, were taken into custody soon afterwards in the neighboring community of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.

A female participant who took part in the raid was also apprehended, according to law enforcement.

“Six suspects who utilized explosives in a raid against a gold refining facility in the Lyon area were arrested at the scene,” the nation's interior minister stated online, praising officers for their “quick action, authority and management”.

Military-style weapons, pistols and explosive materials were recovered as well.

The robbery occurred as law enforcement in France on the same day apprehended five additional individuals, including a primary suspect, in relation to this month's brazen raid on the Louvre museum.

Dozens of investigators have been hunting four robbers who employed a truck equipped with a moving lift and cutting equipment to breach a first-floor gallery at the renowned museum on October 19th, making off with jewelry valued at approximately €88 million.

In another notable incident, robbers the previous month broke into the Parisian museum of natural history, taking gold specimens worth over $1 million. A young Chinese female was taken into custody recently in Barcelona in regarding the theft, officials confirmed.

The sequence of heists has raised concerns in the nation regarding insufficient protection at cultural venues and other facilities housing valuable items.
