🔗 Share this article Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year after instigating insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder. The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His lengthy spell with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer. Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead insulting chants regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the former England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone. Past Conflict Involving Bamford & the Manager The pair had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight last season and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs. Making Amends and Moving Forward Everything seems to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days. The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day. Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call. “We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.” Recent Playing Challenges Bamford made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
