The co-founders behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the business with his partner, revealed that he will personally create this new product within a personal collection highlighting issues the company has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Between Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest development deepens the continuing conflict among the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant that has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed how the parent company along with its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet as an Emblem of Support

Mr. Cohen announced via an Instagram video how he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem for solidarity with Palestinians due to its colors, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism plus Current Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

The new product line is being created through Ben's Best, the activist ice cream brand that originally established several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Future Intentions

The founder indicated that he will create additional frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns which the company was prevented from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

This development comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from the company recently, after decades of involvement, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy was undermined after Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen remarked how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy so that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the values which established its foundation while upholding for decades," he explained to media outlets.
