🔗 Share this article Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons. Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit. A Significant Investment On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters. "My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future." Executive Acclaim The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style. "All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Comforting Counterpoint Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family go about their everyday routines. Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.” Future Seasons Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan. The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
